Packaging Supplies

In partnership with Carbon Jacked, Packaging Supplies has undergone a comprehensive carbon footprint assessment to measure, understand and report their emissions in line with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol.

Packaging Supplies updates its footprint assessment on an annual basis in line with best practice and uses this to take significant steps to reduce its emissions where possible. 

Under the GHG Protocol, companies are only responsible for their core Scope 1 & 2 emissions, but Packaging Supplies has taken the decision to broaden the scope of its carbon footprint assessment to include their Scope 3 emissions (i.e. the indirect emissions from their business), which means a more accurate and detailed evaluation of their environmental impact.

Packaging Supplies’ carbon footprint assessment was carried out using the proprietary Carbon Jacked methodology, which is based on the GHG Protocol. For their assessment, the specific GHG Protocol standards used were the Corporate Standard and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.

Having taken extensive action to reduce their environmental impact, Packaging Supplies have gone even further to invest in verified nature projects directly.

Following their expert carbon footprint assessment, Packaging Supplies has taken the voluntary decision to offset their residual emissions and become ‘Carbon Neutral’. This includes offsetting all of their Scope 1 & 2 emissions and key elements of their Scope 3 emissions.

To do this they have purchased carbon credits from a hydropower project in rural Sumatra. Not only does this project combat climate change by generating over 700,000 units of clean energy every year, but it also contributes to multiple of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. A proportion of the project's revenue is reinvested in the local community, supporting an orphanage and constructing new roads, bridges and a traditional marketplace - giving local farmers better access to their rice paddies and the opportunity to pursue additional income. The project has also funded an extensive reforestation programme to protect the natural landscape and has created quality jobs and upskilling opportunities for locals in what has  traditionally been a farming community.
