What on Earth is Renewable Energy?
Explainer Series
What on Earth is Renewable Energy?
What do renewable energy and Nandos have in common...? Well, just like the bottomless drinks at Nandos, renewable energy doesn't run out.
Here's our Renewable Energy Explainer 💨💡
What on Earth is renewable energy?
Quite simply, it means using nature like the sun and the wind to generate energy. It's renewable because it doesn't run out. There will always be more.
And unlike fossil fuels, there are no nasty by-products, which means no air pollution, no climate change and no extinction of species.
So, yeah, it's pretty great actually.
How do we get all of this renewable energy?
We harness the elements...
Wind - through wind turbines.
Sun - through solar panels.
Water - through hydroelectric power generators (basically just massive dams).
What is the cost of generating renewable energy?
The cost of generating renewable energy is dropping all the time. In fact, it is often the cheapest option.
So, even if you're a tight ass and don't care about the planet... it still makes financial sense.
Summary
In summary:
- Renewables don't run out like fossil fuels
- They don't damage the planet
- AND they're cheap
They're basically forever fuels.
So, make sure you're on a renewable energy tariff at home, and check out our blog to see how to pick a genuinely green tariff.
